Progress 1
Devlog 1 for Skyland Kingdoms
Hello, Welcome to my blog and website for my project Skyland Kingdoms.
Let’s start with Who Am I? I’m Roycon, a software engineer by day and a (game) software engineer by night. Ever since I started programming I have always had personal projects of some sort, most were games but many others were weird combos of emerging techs. I have been trying to make games since before unity released a free version, but never made anything worth sharing.
Where are these games and other projects? I hear you think. Sadly I suffer from a standard developer issue of too many ideas and not enough time, so I end up moving on to the next idea, again and again. I have started and stopped so very many projects (which I understand is not a vote of confidence) however almost all my game projects have the same core, some sort of city builder, colony survival, RTS game. As I age I’ve gotten sick of starting again and again and I want to start showing my projects, gathering feedback and actually finish something.
That brings us to the next question, What is Skyland Kingdoms? This will be getting its own blog post but the summary is, it’s a resource management city builder set on floating islands in a magical fantasy world. It is a single consistent project for me to spend my constant ‘project time’ on, and one day get feedback from players. I have been working on Skyland Kingdoms since mid 2021, but in that time I have had many significant life events so actual time is probably less than half and a full time job consuming most of my productive hours.
Why a Blog? I have now been spending significant time working on Skylands and even though it’s still incomplete I want to start telling people. I also need to start writing down ideas, features, and other game related things; where better then a public blog? Finally, many of my favorite indie devs regularly release blogs, so it must be a good idea.
Going forward I want to write a Blog post every month or so where I will discuss Skyland Kingdoms and share progress. For now stay tuned, bookmark my blog and come back in a few weeks.
